Here’s just a few things you didn’t know about the Scottish kings of interior décor.
Justin
Justin Ryan was born in 1967 in Inverness, Scotland. Prior to becoming a TV presenter, he was a journalist and an estate agent.
Colin
Colin McAllister was born in 1968 in Glasgow. He studied at the Central College of Commerce and worked for Glasgow City Council.
Pendulous breasts
The couple first met in 1985 in a Glasgow nightclub called Bennets where they witnessed a rather inebriated larger lady taking her top off to reveal a pair of terrifyingly pendulous breasts. The boys made eye-contact and started laughing and that was the start of their long and happy relationship.
And the secret is...
The secret to a long relationship according to Colin is keeping the mystery going. “Never let your partner see you on the toilet. And don’t sit around in your underpants picking your feet while watching Coronation Street!”
Wedding bells
After publicly claiming they would never marry, the pair tied the knot on 15th February 2008 in a private ceremony in London before jetting off to the Caribbean for their honeymoon.
On being gobby
Colin and Justin got their big TV break after their house was featured on a Scottish interior design programme called The Home Show. Shortly afterwards, the director called them back to say he was casting a new show called Summer Discovery and was looking for two “gobby” designers to host the show. Naturally, Colin and Justin fitted the bill perfectly.
Scotland
The couple divide their time between their Glasgow and London homes. “We will never leave Scotland. It's our spiritual base, we have a wonderful house here, some of our closest friends and our Mums live here and our late fathers are buried here…” says Justin.
Shiny
Justin collects watches. He has a vintage Patek Philippe passed down by his late father, a vintage Rolex and a glossy white Chanel watch bought for him by Colin.
Doctor Who
Colin thinks his biggest weakness is shopping – particularly on Bond Street and is a massive Chanel fan. He’s also a bit of a Doctor Who geek and has a model Dalek in pride of place in the kitchen of the couple’s Glasgow home.
Cow Cuddles
The pair also share a bit of a bovine obsession. “My family used to live in the country, and when I was four or five my mum would look out of the window and be terrified that I was going to be crushed to death, because I used to cuddle cows! I have four sizeable cow models I just can’t chuck out.” reveals Colin, while Justin has an armchair called Mr Cow. “I pulled it out of a skip when I was 20, and I covered it with cow-print fabric with a staple gun. It’s rubbish but it’s got sentimental value.”
