As one of several British chefs leading a renaissance in British cooking, James Martin is passionate about fresh produce to complement his bold innovative ideas. But he is not in a kitchen in this series, he is in a camper van on a road trip down Memory Lane. As a teenager, James spent time as a student cook in Brittany, France, and now he is revisiting the picturesque towns and villages where he first learnt about French food.
From Concarneau in the west to Pornic in the south and St Malo in the north, James checks out the local markets, ciders, cheese factories and bakeries. And no trip to France is complete without a visit to the kitchens which produce all that exquisite, tempting pâtisserie.
Along the way, he is joined by his friends and fellow chefs The Hairy Bikers, Martin Blunos, Lawrence Keogh and Michelin-starred Daniel Galmiche, who accompany him on shopping trips to pick up the freshest local produce and then help him turn it into delicious meals – classic French cuisine, with a British twist.
